Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
