Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
